MAPLight.org, a groundbreaking public database, illuminates the connection between campaign donations and legislative votes in unprecedented ways. Elected officials collect large sums of money to run their campaigns, and they often pay back campaign contributors with special access and favorable laws.
This common practice is contrary to the public interest, yet legal. MAPLight.org makes money/vote connections transparent, to help citizens hold their legislators accountable.
The Database
MAPLight.org combines three data sets:
* Bill texts and legislative voting records
* Supporting and opposing interests for each bill
* Campaign contribution data from the Center for Responsive Politics and the National Institute on Money in State Politics
Combining this data makes visible key information that could never before be determined easily. For example:
* Contributions given by interests supporting and opposing each bill
* Average donations given to legislators voting “Yes” and “No” on each bill
* Timeline of contributions and votes for each bill, graphically identifying when legislators received large
donations before or after their vote.

The reporter was right to call him on it, he's received more money from lobbyists than all but one repub candidate and more endorsements from them than any of them. To try to make is sound as if they have no influence over him is disingenuous.
Now they just need to jump Hillary for it as well to be fair about it, she's got more endorsements and money from them than any other candidate, dem or repub, if one of them is in the news for it then both should be.
From the reporter in question.

And the following links to both Roll Call and Open Secrets for sourcing on the donations/endorsements. Clinton seems to draw the most support from the lobbies for the dems, him for the repubs, good part of why I'm not fond of either. I'm not convinced they'll work for us.

Comment etiquette and video downvoting aren't one in the same but there is room for a lot of input on the subject. I can stir up the hornets nest on it

I considered that but don't think I'm the right one for it, I'm good with facts and sources but I suck at the social stuff and would be sure to screw it up somehow. If it's done right we get somewhere, blow it and we've "been there recently" with nothing actually changed.
Dag is aware of the idea and many others here are both better with people and more familiar with the prior threads and agreements, for me it's just a hazy "I seem to remember a thread" type of thing. If anyone wants to do it and needs a hand looking up old threads or something I'd be willing but past that I think I'm ill suited for it. Just make sure to drop Dag a note first in case he's already on it or has ideas of his own for it.

Actually he's right there too, he's a pretty well educated individual. Saying it wasn't about freeing the slaves is true enough but that doesn't mean it had nothing to do with the issue. Many in the south were wary of the "slippery slope", same as we are today in ways and same as we justified Nam and other issues with in the past. They weren't happy with the fight to keep the new territories slave free, with the fight over it in Kansas, nor with the platform Lincoln was elected under.
Four of the States which rebelled signed not only the declarations of secession themselves but also documents on the causes for it. Some of them hardly mentioned slavery and some ranted on and on about the issue. How big a part slavery played would have depended in large part on who you asked, and where. http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/reasons.html
The following page contains a fair number of documents related to the issue, one of which is the Party Platforms and Secession Documents, inside that you'll find the 1860 Republican Party Platform. A decent part of the platform in the last election before the war was related to the issue of slavery and the south decided they would not be lead by that man under that platform, it was worth rebellion. http://members.aol.com/jfepperson/causes.html
So while it's true to say the Civil War wasn't about freeing the slaves it's also true that it was in large part about slavery and how this nation would live with it in the future. Not just about that, but it was one of the hot button issues of the time and we've got it in their own words.

I don't have time to get caught up here and properly support it in the thread for one thing, and for another even if I was here regular at the moment I might pass it along since it's more in your area than mine. Drug war, streets, gangs, and stuff like that I do as well as some generic "it looked cool" things but what I think others can get more out of they are welcome to, especially if it's a subject that matters. Not the first vid I've offered someone.
Just passing by and thought it was something you'd want.

I did a quick search here and didn't see the name mentioned, this seemed a subject you'd be interested in and the guy could use us watching out for him. Wael Abbas is a blogger from Egypt who has at great personal risk posted torture videos to expose police brutality among other things, his work has lead to some changes including the rare prosecution of some cops for raping a prisoner with a foreign object.
He used Youtube to post his vids and some jerks it seemed complained so his channel was suspended and his vids deleted. Channel has been restored now and is at http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=waelabbas but the vids as of now are still gone.
Google search for Wael Abbas and Youtube should get more info on the subject and the following vid about his work could be a good opening to get some here to notice him, or maybe you could find something better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfWCX__kQ3k
In any case he does important work and could use us watching out for him to prevent this from happening again, figured you might be interested. Later.
If you like the music, I currently have 7 additional songs up by SLC on YouTube right now and plan on adding a bunch more when I have time to edit the various videos I have. You can also find all 20 of their recorded studio tracks on Limewire from time to time... I share them pretty much whenever I am not using my computer, so feel free to grab those to if you want.
Thanks again for the support, the ex-members of Snake Like Charm all appreciate it.
