This vintage Spanish Inquisition arcade game is an exhibit at Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum in Farmington Hills, Michigan. I couldn't find the production date, but I'm guessing 20s or 30s. This game was the root cause of all the societal violence of its time. Suck it, Jack Thompson.

Always remember that throughout history, even before there was written language, there were those who spoke of a glorious "Golden Age," where people had real values because they weren't corrupted by modern technology.

I guarantee you that during the Neolithic Revolution there must have been curmudgeons who decried agriculture's "softening" effect on humanity. Prophets of doom surely wandered through the villages, saying that the end was near because agriculture created free time for people to pursue other interests such as the arts, science, and literature. Their new-fangled "written" language certainly meant that they had become amoral slobs and dickless men.

Technology has changed; human nature hasn't.

^Yup. Those who decry video games today once argued with their parents about the merits Talking-Pictures and Technicolor. I suppose when we get old we'll probably prattle on about the evils of holodecks or some shit.

^Yep, those who decry that humanity has changed have never read Joseph Campbell who further illustrates the point that today is (as Charles Dickens said) "the best of times, it was the worst of times." We're just as worse off today as we were four thousand years ago. That's JC's perspective, and I believe him, that's why I hate those fear peddlers who insist we need Obama for change. He's not changing shit. [/troll]

^Oh, please. Coming from a guy who's voting for Bob Barr, the rubber stamp Republican who chose to spend his time in Washington attacking pot smokers, gays, oral sex and civil liberties? That makes no sense. It would seem that your major criteria in a candidate is an 'L' to the left of their name.

Obama is the best nominee we've had in decades. If you have a better option, I'm all ears, but I sense you are content to just complain.

And as far as fear goes, both Libertarians and Democrats are using fear of the Bush administration as a campaign strategy, and rightfully so.

Well, the virulent spread of information is hastened of late, and with the coming of news medias, the doom sayers find their listeners easily. I doubt there is much difference in people from then to now, now there is just a bigger market for such diarrhea of the mouth.

This video has been featured on game politics, so congratulations I guess, since at least the view count should shoot upwards.

gwhiz, there is reason to suspect that the fishy shit the Bush admin. has done/is doing, not to mention the last 6 admins, have orchestrated an inevitability, which most folks find easy to deny, and unable to wrap their head around, Denial is the most predictable, and easily manipulated result, of masses of people who all share a steady diet of bullshit disinformation and programming, oozing out from the cathode-ray nippy., from the masters of spin-..Get YER tin-foil, and make ya'self a straight jacket....

Seriously, you don't really believe that, do you? I'd vote for him over McCain, but that just means he's the lesser of the two evils. I'd also rather catch Herpes than AIDS. I don't think it's fair to throw ad hominem around just because I don't like him or his policies. Having a different political opinion isn't complaining. Not wanting Herpes and AIDS isn't complaining, either.

I don't think telling Jackass Thompson that this game causes violence strengthens the case that videogames don't cause violence. In fact, I think it's the opposite.

i think his point was that every generation finds something to blame the violence of society on. that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the real cause tho...

mg, I was being facetious. I don't think Thompson holds any real political clout, I was just making a joke at his expense.

Blankfist, I respect your libertarian perspective, but I think the Libertarian Party has sold out by using Bob Barr as their standard bearer and I see your support of him as contradictory of your own idealism. It's not an attack, it's a challenge. Do you have a better option?

Also, yes, Obama is the best viable candidate of the last two decades.
