Why Uber Is Terrible - Cracked Explains

Mordhaus says...

Uber and Lyft wouldn't exist if the Taxi system wasn't horrible beyond belief. Fix the medallion/license issues and they both go out of business. Otherwise, even if both ride sharing companies go out of business, people will still create some type of app to get around the shitty monopoly that is currently in place.

As far as trained professionals with background checks, yeah, a day's worth of training is amazing (sarcasm). Also, most taxi drivers go through a minimal (if any) amount of background checking. For instance, here in Austin, Tx, it was reported that fifty-three drivers who failed background checks to become Uber drivers had been issued chauffeur’s licenses by the City of Austin.

Actually, he's probably in UberLux. He's charging 10x or more what a cab driver would be charging. He's stiffing hard-working black car service chauffeurs out of THEIR income.

What kind of douche drives a six-figure car and thinks it's a good idea to make a few bucks on the side stiffing hard-working taxi drivers out of their income?

I hope some drunk pukes all over his back seat.

Drummers on Ringo Starr

A10anis says...

In the early 1980s I conned my way into a London chauffeur's job. I figured I could slowly learn my around. To my utter horror, my first job was to pick up Mr Starkey(Ringo) and his beautiful actress wife Barbara Bach from the Dorchester Hotel. I had no clue where the Fk I was going. He soon realised but he could not have been nicer or more understanding. Leaning forward and telling me which way to steer the Rolls, he put me totally at ease. He never told my boss, for which I was even more grateful than the substantial tip (which he would not let me refuse). I know it's a minor anecdote, but it gives a small insight into his decency.

Automator - It's Over Now (Kool Keith & Dan the Automator)

MrFisk says...

[Talking voice]
Yeah man, just left town man
I'm here, here
Had to get outta town baby
Where you stayin' now?
You can pick me up at the round busstation
Or I can take a plane
There's your cab? I'll be right over
It's gonna be a few sec, and I'll tell you what went down

[Kool Keith]
I stayed in New York, depressed, walkin' mad through the block
Watching brothers go down, my project friends smoking rock
My group divided and everthing was undecided
I was drinking, thinking: "Damn, man, my boat is sinking"
Everybody's wack and new groups comin' back
They on Arsenio, booty's on video
Watch this clown rhyme that's paid for on primetime
Everybody's mean, they're hard, they're killing mothers
Shootin' bang bang, fakin man killing brothers
I had to turn off the radio from all the Walt Disney
Mickey Mouse and friends all talking pop and lippy
Girls excited for what? And over-infatuated
People got their brain washed and folks got manipulated
They start beleiving Donald Duck made the earth
The industry was cursed since the Dinosaur's birth
(The industry was cursed since the Dinosaur's birth)

[Chorus]
It's over now
No problems in this world
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl
It's over now
My mind was in a twirl
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl
It's over now
No problems in this world
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl
It's over now
My mind was caught up in a twirl
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl

[Kool Keith]
Flying nighttime, eating peanuts on the plane
With no moneycontrol, my stress builds on my brain
My ticket's oneway
I'm out to southern Caliway
I left behind some people that wasn't even equal
I thought back with chicks and freaks in 86'
When Marley was in in control +the funky magic mix+
I had the limousine on hold with the real chauffeur
Ripped the ???? up with Ultra and I felt like Oprah
Girls in flocks and fans in lines from blocks
I didn't even hear a peep of you rappin' mister
I was your idol and probably on your older sister
Now you bad you signed stupid with a recorddeal
Your image is butt you perpertrating Shootin' Steel
Holdin' guns on albumcovers just to make funds
You the man quick fast payed out the ?anoass?
You can see I'm back and clear on stereo
with my own style, my intimite material

[Talking voice]
Ye, your style changed every year
Think about what you did
Used to dance, used to wear suits
Then you came back to wearing hip-hop clothes
Then you went back to wearing suits

[Chorus]
It's over now
No problems in this world
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl
It's over now
My mind was caught up in a twirl
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl

[Kool Keith]
No accountant, my lawyer keepin' checks on the low
Money, expenses for trips I didn't know
Agencies finding shows I could get myself
Writing rhymes at night in the house by myself
I open mailboxes, all I see was more bills
Gettin' cold chicken, walkin' down Bronx hills
Askin' moms for 50 cent, just to pay my rent
I had no will to ill, my mind was out to kill
I called up Kurt, got a big deal signed with Capitol
Money's flowin' now wild suckas out blowin' up
They my pupic care, and pupils still growin' up
Sucking mean while the g'ism as it hits the rhythm
They want that new style, no money it's called freestyle
Taping off the radio, smokin' from my crack vial
They on my tip now, as always as usual
You forgot me, but I didn't forget you

[Chorus]
2x It's over now
No problems in this world
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl
It's over now
My mind was caught up in a twirl
It's over now
I'm home chillin' with my girl

@chilaxe, I never know if you are serious or trolling, but since you admire Cain so much, perhaps it would interest you to know that you would also consider his parents low class and not well educated, who worked 'cognitively simplistic' jobs:

Herman Cain was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lenora Davis Cain, a cleaning woman and domestic worker, and Luther Cain, Jr., who was raised on a farm and worked as a barber and janitor, as well as a chauffeur for Coca-Cola Company president Robert W. Woodruff. Cain has said that as he was growing up, his family was "poor but happy." Cain related that his mother taught him about her belief that "success was not a function of what you start out with materially, but what you start out with spiritually". His father worked three jobs to own his own home — something he achieved during Cain's childhood — and to see his two sons graduate.

Also, the uploader is obviously in the Air Force, so he must have at least graduated from high school.

Cain probably grew up in a worse environment than 95% of the people on Videosift.

"His mother was a cleaning woman and his father, who was raised on a farm, was a chauffeur." Keep in mind his parents were black in the 1930s in the south, and probably had a fraction of the education most sifters' parents had.
>> ^Kofi:

His argument: I was successful so everybody else should be successful.
Yet he also states how lucky he was to be instilled with values that helped him. So he accepts that he is not a self-made man, though his wealth might be, but rejects claims by anyone who is not successful regardless of their arbitrary luck of where they were born or how they were raised.

"His mother was a cleaning woman and his father, who was raised on a farm, was a chauffeur... Under Cain's leadership, his region went in three years from the least profitable for Burger King to the most profitable. This prompted Pillsbury to appoint him President and CEO of another subsidiary, Godfather's Pizza. Aiming to cut costs, Cain over a 14-month period reduced the company from 911 stores down to 420. As a result of his efforts, Godfather's Pizza finally became profitable.

That's a pretty slanted synopsis, at least as far as Godfather's goes. They used to be a huge chain, producing top quality pizza at a top price. Now, there are two left in my town...they apparently cannot even pay an amateur web designer to put together a functional webpage (their page is a nightmare to navigate through), and it takes over an hour (and probably an extra call or two) to get a pizza delivered. At the rate they're going, they'll be direct competitors of Ceci's or Pizza Kitchen in another couple of years, if they're around at all.

I think I'd put it more that he made them profitable in the short term, buy gutting the business and selling of anything of value...just like any corporate raider or Wall street banker. No great surprise that he supports them, he -is- one of them.

Gov't stopped funding charity, private donations surge 500% (Politics Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

You are projecting. I'm not saying that high density metropolitan areas are superior, I'm saying that when people live in such close proximity to one another, it requires organization and management for it to function. If you live on Walden pond, not so much. Thoreau's concept of liberty was one of genuine self-reliance, not your shallow, materialist, David Koch reboot.

Like most other conservatives, you confuse wealth with self reliance. Money doesn't make you more self reliant. It makes you less self reliant. By its very definition, money relies on the existence of others for it to have value in the first place - A million dollars will buy you nothing in the wilderness.

Usually, the more money you have, the less self reliant you become, and in terminal stages of wealth, you regress to an infantile state, requiring maids, cooks, butlers, chauffeurs and other types of personal assistants to take care of you. Look at Donald Trump on the news if you want to see the infantilization caused by late stage wealthyness. The wealthy are not able or willing to do anything for themselves.

I'd respect your political views on liberty more if they were more like Thoreau's - and less concerned with materialism, greed, bling and property rights. As I've said before, the fact that you feel the need to graft radical Friedmanite conservatism to your concept of liberty tells me that you understand nothing of liberty. I wish HDT were alive and here on videosift to set you straight, but he would probably not own a laptop or have an internet connection.

Go spend a month in the wilderness with nothing but a bowie knife and a loin cloth, and you'd come back with a very different concept of liberty.

You know if I was really trying to decide between the Veyron and the F1, I think I'd have to take the Bugatti... and then I'd hire the Stig as my chauffeur so he could rocket me around the streets of Dubai while drinking my champagne smoothie and eating my Wagyu-truffle-caviar burger in the back.
